“There is more power in a mother’s hand than in a king’s scepter.”
This quote is from Billy Sunday. Billy Sunday is one of the most famous evangelists of the 20th century. God has used him to lead hundreds of thousands to the Lord. He was also a professional baseball player in his early adult life. Sunday spent some years working and serving at the Iowa Soldiers’ Orphans’ Home. His audiences consisted of the down and out as well as to some of the most wealthy and influential people in society. No scandal ever touched Sunday. He was sincerely devoted to his wife. He was greatly respected by many people and influenced many people to seek God and to surrender their life to Christ. He was a man of great character and godly influence but when he spoke about some of the greatest people that he admired in society; he defaulted to mothers and their great influence over society. The heart of a godly mother’s influence goes far beyond herself. Henry Ward Beecher, the great abolitionist, once stated, “The mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom.” Moms, we recognize that you have a high calling and we realize that because of this, the enemy will try to rob you of this great calling. This Sunday we will look into the scriptures to see the keys of what it takes to fulfill the “High Calling of Motherhood.” Please, note this message is for women young and old. I will be addressing spiritual motherhood as well. I hope to see you all on Sunday.
