Southside has a ministry each Sunday night to the children that live in Sparkman Homes. We have a faithful group that goes every Sunday night, but they need your help! They need substitute teachers to step in when the regular teachers cannot go. They are willing to train you. If you are interested in this ministry, contact Dana Watwood or the church office for more information.
Pastor Michael felt that the Lord laid this group of "invisible people" on his heart. A handful of Southsiders visit the local jail every week to fellowship and share their faith with men and women who need friendship and the blessings of the gospel. We also host large picnics during the summer for all ofthe officers, their families, and our church members. There is delicious food and fun activities and games for all ages. Everyone is welcome! In addition, our church gives "Officer Cooler Bags" each Christmas as presents to the officers.
Southside is located within walking distance to the hospitals. We have felt the calling to minister to the medical district for a long time. There's lots of other good stuff about the hospital ministry that Karen's going to write about for you in the days ahead.
The Welcome Team gives Southside guests and members their first impression when they arrive on campus. From a friendly smile when opening the door to picking up litter, to showing a family around, the Welcome Team makes us feel... welcome!

I have been spending quite a bit of time thinking about discipleship and the true picture of discipleship. Bible studies and classes are good things but when I really look at scripture and study Jesus’ model of discipleship there is one word that comes to my mind, “Investment”. Investment is the essence of discipleship. Investment and discipleship both communicate value and importance. “I see you as valuable. I believe that you are worth investing in, caring for and walking with.
